Since the beginning of World War 1, the Arab question has been a central issue in global politics, and yet it remains a question that’s never been sufficiently answered. In the past 100 years, we’ve seen the rise and fall of dynasties, the success and iminent failure of revolutions, the birth of nationalism, the experiment of socialism, countless wars, and consistent intervention from foreign imperialist powers.
The Arab world has given birth to brilliant ideologies, great leaders, and immensely powerful popular movements, all of which have been, by most measurable standards, abject failures; as a people we have been consistently unable to develop our principles into solid, lasting foundations capable of promoting justice and equity among all level of society, and maintaining a regional identity apart from foreign capitalistic interest. The lasting impressions of these efforts has yielded nothing but corruption, stagnation, and a hodgepodge of failed political theories, intersecting and overlapping but never reaching a level beyond ideological justification for dictatorial oppression.
This blog is an attempt to analyze Middle Eastern issues from a progressive perspective, with a focus on popular soveriegnty, leftist political theory, and indigenous resistance to neo-colonialism.
